Brooklyn Legal Services Corp. A Congratulates Make the Road New York and Groundwork, Inc. for their Recognition as Outstanding Nonprofits

Brooklyn A congratulates its clients and partners Make the Road New York and Groundwork, Inc. for their recognition by The New York Times Company, the Nonprofit Coordinating Committee of New York, and the New York Regional Association of Grantmakers as Semifinalists for the third annual Nonprofit Excellence Awards. The Nonprofit Excellence Awards honor excellence in overall management, fundraising and finances, corporate governance, use of resources, and communications. Only 10 organizations are chosen as semifinalists each year.

Brooklyn A’s Community & Economic Development (CED) Unit congratulates its client Make the Road New York (MRNY), a citywide organization which promotes economic justice, equality, and opportunity for all New Yorkers through community and electoral organizing, strategic policy advocacy, leadership development, youth and adult education, and high quality legal and support services. The CED Unit serves as house counsel to MRNY and worked with MRNY to re-structure its organizational governance when Make the Road by Walking and Latin American Integration Center joined together in 2007 to form the group as it is now structured. Because of the role we played in advising MRNY on its corporate structure, we are especially proud that the award recognizes MRNY’s corporate governance structure.

Brooklyn A also congratulates Groundwork, Inc., another of this year’s Semifinalist honorees. Brooklyn A Senior Staff Attorney Terry Herman provides guidance and does client intake at one of Groundwork’s community facilities in East New York, where he represents families facing eviction and other significant legal problems.
